Welcome to the personal website of David John Wilson.
Data Scientist
I am very interested in the increasing role of Data in business, and what can be gleamed from analysis of various data sources. I have experience in working with video-based data, am completing the Udacity Data Analyst nanodegree, and building a portfolio of interesting data studies.
I will be posting interesting data studies on this site below, as well as discussions of technologies and frameworks I use.
Developer
Having spent three years researching for my PhD in theoretical computer science, I am making the transition into industry. Based in the Bay Area, I am currently working for Facebook as a Business Intelligence Engineer on the People Insights team. Previously, I worked for GuideSpark as a Data Scientist (originally hired as part of the Silicon Valley Internship Programme).
Researcher
I completed my undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Oxford, and gained a Masters in Pure Mathematics at Rutgers, State University of New Jersey, under a Fulbright Scholarship. I have spent the last three years completing a PhD in Computer Science (in particular, Computer Algebra and Real Algebraic Geometry) at the University of Bath, supervised by Prof. James H. Davenport and Dr Russell Bradford.
I have many peer-reviewed publications and have presented at various international conferences.
Reviewer
I started learning ballet in my early twenties, and have reviewed performances and written features for various websites. I am passionate about engaging new ballet audiences, and have worked recently with the Royal Opera House and other organisations to this end.
